The Best Mesmer PVE Build
Hello,
After trying many other professions, I've decided to make a Mesmer.
However, after looking at the "Mesmer Basics" post - I'm afraid I became even more confused!
What, in the opinion of this forum, is the most suitable class for a PVE Mesmer? I'm assuming it's either Elementalist or Necromancer. And what skill set combinations are best for PVE mesmers?
If anyone could submit a build for a PVE mesmer I'd be ever so grateful.
Thanks.

My advice to you is to try everything, and only then will you know what you like. As I have said before, with mesmers in PvE its all about finding your niche, and being good at it.

I really don't think there is a BEST PVE build for mesmers. Most other professions can just set a skillbar and have it be useful for any situation or location. With a mesmer, you have to know what you're facing ahead of time, and prepare your skills accordingly. What may work best for you in Sorrow's Furnace may not in the Underworld.

Here is one I use frequenty
I have a Me/E
Fast Casting 9 (5 + 3 +1) I like having a superior rune here so that I always have at least 4 in this attribute (rune plus hat)
Illusion 12 (11 + 1)
Inspiration 5 (4 +1)
Fire Magic 12
Skills
1 Fireball
2 Immolate
3 Meteor
4 Conjure Phantasm
5 Migrane
6 Leech Signet
7 Power Drain
8 Free (can be rez sig, hex breaker, inspired hex, glyph of lesser energy...whatever you feel you need)
This build is pretty straight forward to play and can really dominate against the environment. The way to play it effectively is to use conjure phantasm (and migrane if fighting a spell caster) then fireball and immolate (if you haven't used migrane). Remember that hlth degen maxes out at 10 so don't needlessly stack above that. Use Meteor if you need to put some extra hurt on someone and for the knockdown when you need it, BUT use it wisely because it takes a long time to cast and causees exhaustion.
Whenever you find yourself in need of some energy (or when you see a particularly nasty spell) use power drain, or if you have to use leech sig. Don't waste leech sig though because it can stop any action, not just spells, but it only gives you energy when you stop a spell.
Don't worry about healing, that's not your job, but stay out of the way or you will go down quick.
hope that gives you some ideas...have fun

that is true, my build is just a base to build off and change for each situation, so the most important part is to know what you will be facing.
happy hunting

Certainly there are more useful skills in PvE than PvP. It's not so efficient or useful overall to play an energy-burning mesmer in PvE, when your party will be done with casters in a short while anyway.
I play only Mesmer secondary but have gotten most of the skills, I'd say Backfire works pretty well on PvE casters. Empathy is good to cast on melee enemies. Shatter Hex is good fun in areas like the desert with the Scarabs, as it contributes area damage.
It's good to have one of the interrupt skills as it comes handy in the later areas like Sorrow's Furnace where you can stop a priest from reviving its friends, or a necro from making Bone minions.
Diversion is pretty good for on healer foes.
Soothing Images is nice against heavy melee foes, as it will stop them from using adrenaline skills and will help the "frontline" party.
But overall if you wanna be a good contribution to a party don't tank, stick to the back and turn all the foes into panacea! ^ ^
PS: personally I'd go Mesmer/Monk with 1-2 prot skills but that's just me.. Fast Cast Reversal Of Fortune rocks.. can give just the time to the monk to save someone's butt. It s alittle whacky but I like it.

There is a rule you learn when you play card games. And since Anet has repeatedly referred to Magic the Gathering when talking about GW, it applies the same here.
Look at your skill bar like your deck. The most absolute rule of any card game is that there is no "Best" or "Perfect" deck. Its all about the person playing it, their style and the situation.
